Conservation Committee read “Last Child in the Woods,” by Richard Louv, awarded the Margaret Douglas Award for Achievement In Conservation Education; story in the Summer 2020 issue of GCA Con Watch. Richard Louv asks “How in the world do we think the earth, and all its natural wonders, will be of value to a generation who is increasingly becoming disconnected to that world? Who will bother protecting it? Who will be its future stewards when we are raising, for the most part, a generation of children who can’t tell the difference between a peony and a pixel? And worst of all, they may not know enough to care.” As grandmothers, sisters, aunts, cousins and friends we do have some influence on the younger generation.”
