1921
“The Highway of a Thousand Elms” was the Club’s first major civic project. Twelve hundred elm trees were planted along Des Moines Way, which was then the “new highway” between Seattle and Tacoma.
Each tree was in memory of a Washington State sol- dier killed in World War I.
1925
Planted 600 Lombardy Poplars along the road to The Highlands
Planted 100 pink Dogwoods on the University of Washington campus and dedicated a bench, designed by Carl Gould, to Mrs. Horace Henry in a campus garden area called Island Grove

Planted Aurora Avenue as it cuts through Woodland Park
1932
Planted a Lawson Cedar on the grounds of St. Mark’s Cathedral
Planted 200 flowering Crabapples and American Elms and Oaks along the north shore of Green Lake in honor of George Washington’s Bicentennial

Plaque in memory of Dr. Cecil Tenny in the Washing- ton Park Arboretum. Through the Garden Club, Mrs. Tenny gave 300 of her husband’s rhododendrons to the Arboretum.

A Yuletide gift to the Northwest, “The Christmas Tree of a Thousand Lights,” the first tree to grace down- town Seattle in 25 years. The tree honored all the men of the Armed Forces, especially those away from home for the holidays.
