Message from The President:
The Shirley Meneice Horticulture Conference has just ended. I am not alone in saying that it was a HUGE success! I am in the enviable position, as SGC President, to bask in the praise being heaped upon our Club and members, for the show of support to our own Catherine Allan, who chaired the Conference. She, along with Jenny Wyatt, worked tirelessly to create an event representing the very best speakers and field trips that our area has in its arsenal. Their attention to the scheduling details was evident each and every day of the Conference.
It would be impossible for me to list every single SGC person who contributed to this success – you are legion. Here are a very few of the comments I heard personally (with perhaps a tiny bit of paraphrasing) – and I’m sure there are many more which others will share in the weeks ahead:
- We in the south consider ourselves famous for hospitality, but your Club members have proven that we can be outdone in that department.
- I have been to many horticulture gatherings, but have never learned as much and enjoyed any as much as this one.
- We are so jealous of all these fabulous speakers and opportunities you have here!
- Who did all the wonderful flowers and arrangements? Where did you get those lovely bark canoes?
- The lunch and all the home-baked cookies were delicious. I just can’t believe that you all went to so much trouble.
I would like to personally say, thank you, to each and every one of you for helping SGC and Seattle shine!
