Attract a Fairy

I’ll bet when you think of fairies, you imagine tiny magical creatures, much like that of Disney’s Tinker Bell. But fairies, as mythical beings, have been part of the world’s folklore for hundreds of years!

Dating way back to 12th century England, fairies have appeared in real-life accounts, storybooks and poems in nearly every culture. They are depicted as being both helpful and mischievous little beings who are both feared and respected for their supernatural powers.

And because they are said to speak in the language of gifts, what better way to befriend them than to build them a home in your garden?

Supplies and Tools needed:

● A small box
● Glue (hot glue works especially well!)
● Creative decorations

Getting started

Step 1: Take a walk through a park or the woods near your house and gather things like twigs, pinecones, stones, ferns, moss, flowers, bark, sand, tiny plants, driftwood, or vines. If you don’t live near a park or wooded area, you can also use things from within your home like buttons, popsicle sticks, small boxes or containers, beads, pipe cleaners, cotton balls, ribbon or even paper towel rolls.

Steph 2: Turn the box on its side.

Step 3: Begin gluing the things you’ve gathered to the outside (and inside!) of your fairy home. Remember, fairies love shiny things so make it shine.

Taking it Deeper
Do you believe in fairies? Have you ever seen one?
Where does their magic come from?
Do you think they have their own special language?
What do you think fairy dust is made of?
Do you think pixies are the same as fairies? If not, how might they be different?
